Key takeaways

  • In UK and Australian sizing, E is the cup after DD: about 6 inches between band and bust, the same as a US DDD.
  • In EU and French sizing, E is one cup smaller: about 5 inches, the same as a US DD.
  • Some US brands label their DD as "DD/E", which adds to the confusion.
  • Always check which sizing system a bra uses before ordering an E cup.

An E cup means different things depending on the label. In UK and Australian sizing, E is the cup after DD: about 6 inches between band and bust, the same as a US DDD. In EU and French sizing, E is one cup smaller, about 5 inches, which equals a US DD. Some US brands also print “DD/E” on their DD bras.

Brands that use UK sizing, such as Curvy Kate, list both labels on their US sites (for example, a UK 34E shown as US 34DDD). Our bra size converter handles any size and system.

The underbust follows the band: just over 32 up to 34 inches for a 34 band, and so on. Our DDD bra size guide covers the same cup from the US side.

Why E causes so much confusion

US and UK sizing match until DD, then split. US brands mostly went DD, DDD, then G; UK brands went DD, E, F. Meanwhile EU sizing never used DD at all, so its E sits where everyone else’s DD is. That’s three different meanings for one letter. The bra cup sizes in order guide lays out every sequence side by side.

How to buy an E cup without guessing

  1. Find the sizing system on the label or size chart: UK, EU or US.
  2. Convert from your measured size. If you measure a US 34DDD, look for UK 34E or EU 75F.
  3. Check the brand’s own chart where it shows both labels.
  4. Try your sister sizes if the band feels loose: a US 34DDD is also a 32G or 36DD in cup volume.

Is an E cup big?

It depends on the band. A UK 30E holds about the same as a 34D, while a UK 38E is a full bust. Our guide to what bra size is considered big explains how band and cup work together.
