Labels other than UK follow the brand conversion charts we use. Brands make different size ranges, and US brands in particular can label larger cups differently (for example DDD or F).

Your selected label
32DD US sizing

32 is the band label and DD is the cup label in US sizing. UK equivalent: 32DD.

One-step sister sizes: 30E (smaller band) and 34D (larger band).

A cup letter depends on the band. The same cup letter on different bands does not describe the same cup capacity. Selecting a label here is not a personal size recommendation.

Part 1

The number identifies the band

The band label describes the size of the bra’s band within its sizing system. In UK sizing, band labels are even numbers based on inches. A well-fitting band sits level and does most of the work of keeping a bra in place, but the band label alone does not describe how a bra will fit.

Part 2

The letter works together with the band

A cup letter is not a fixed volume. In the usual convention a 36D cup is larger than a 32D cup, because cup size is graded with the band. Always read the band and cup together.

Label nuance

What are bra cup sizes in order?

Cup letters do not follow the alphabet in the same way everywhere. US and UK labels match up to DD, then split. Each step below is one cup size, from D upwards.

  2. D

  4. DDD
  5. G
  6. H
  7. I
  8. J
  9. K

Some US brands write E for DD, F for DDD, or DDDD for G.

UK sizing uses double letters and has no I cup.

Labels follow the brand conversion charts we use. European sizing uses single letters (D, E, F, G…). Always check the chart of the brand you are buying.

Each tool answers a different sizing question.

Same cup, different band

Different labels can have similar cup capacity

Sister sizes change the band while keeping cup capacity approximately comparable.

Smaller band 30E Firmer band
Reference size Starting point 32DD Reference cup
Larger band 34D Looser band

These sizes have approximately comparable cup capacity, but the band fit changes. They are options to try, not guaranteed substitutes.

Fit checkpoints

A label is only part of the fit

Size charts describe labels, not breast shape. Wire width, cup depth and style all affect comfort.

1. Check the band

The band should sit level all the way around and feel firm but comfortable. A band that rides up at the back is often too loose; a band that digs in may be too tight, or the cups may be too small.

2. Check the cups

In an underwired bra, the wires should sit around breast tissue rather than on it. Look for spilling over the edges, or empty fabric that does not settle when you move.

3. Check movement

Raise your arms and move gently. In many underwired styles the centre panel rests close to the chest, but this varies by style, so check against the type of bra you are wearing.

Clarity and details

Frequently asked questions

Does a DD cup have the same capacity on every band?

No. A cup letter only has meaning together with its band. In the usual convention, the same cup letter on a larger band is a larger cup, which is why 32DD, 34D and 30E are treated as sister sizes with approximately comparable cup capacity.

Are UK and US bra sizes the same?

Band numbers are usually the same, and cups A to D generally match. Above D the systems diverge: UK sizing uses double letters (DD, E, F, FF, G, GG…), while US brands use different and less consistent labels (for example DDD). Use the size converter and always check the specific brand’s chart.

Can this chart calculate my size from measurements?

No. The chart is a reference for existing size labels. To estimate a starting size from your underbust and bust measurements, use the bra size calculator, which explains how the result was worked out.

What if my size is not shown in the chart?

The chart covers UK bands 28 to 48 and UK cups AA to L (shown in your chosen system), which is the range our tools support. Some brands make bands below 28 or cups beyond L, and many brands make a smaller range than this chart shows. Check the brand’s own size guide.

Will every bra with the same label fit the same?

Not necessarily. Wire shape, cup depth, fabric stretch and construction vary between brands and styles, so the same label can fit differently. Treat a size label as a starting point and check the fit each time.

Should I change size if my bra feels uncomfortable?

Possibly, but discomfort can have several causes, including style, shape, wear, or hook position. The fit checker helps you narrow down what to check before changing size. Persistent pain is worth discussing with a health professional.
