Not sure which sizing system your bra uses?

Check the sewn-in label and the brand’s size guide before converting.

  1. Step 01

    Check the label

Many labels print several systems. The brand’s own size guide tells you which one it uses on each storefront.

  2. Step 02

    Look for double letters

Cups such as FF, GG or HH are a strong sign of UK sizing.

  3. Step 03

    Look for DDD

DDD and letters such as I suggest US sizing; check the brand’s US chart.

  4. Step 04

    Read the band number

    Bands such as 70, 75, 80 suggest EU sizing; 85, 90, 95 suggest French sizing; 8, 10, 12 suggest AU/NZ.

Some brands sell in different systems on different storefronts. For example, Freya’s US site uses US sizing, while Curvy Kate’s US site lists UK sizes. Browse Brand Size Guides

Simple process

How do you convert a UK bra size to US?

The same three steps work for any pair of systems.

  1. 01

    Choose your system

Pick the system of a bra that fits you well. Where the brand is based matters less than which system its label uses.

    The label system matters most

  2. 02

    Enter the full size

Choose both band and cup. A cup letter cannot be converted on its own, because it depends on the band.

    Never convert a cup alone

  3. 03

    Check the destination

Use the converted label when shopping, then check that brand’s own chart, because brands can differ.

    Brand charts come first

Band labels

International band size comparison

Band conversions are consistent across every brand chart we checked. UK and US use the same numbers; EU, French and AU/NZ use their own labels.

Band labels in UK, US, EU, French and Australian sizing
UK / USEUFranceAU / NZ
28 60 75 6
30 65 80 8
32 70 85 10
34 75 90 12
36 80 95 14
38 85 100 16
40 90 105 18
42 95 110 20
44 100 115 22
46 105 120 24
48 110 125 26

These are labels, not measurements. An EU band label is not your underbust in centimeters, so convert labels with this table rather than by converting inches to centimeters.

Cup labels

International bra size conversion chart

UK and US cups split after DD. Where brands use more than one label for a step, both are shown. A dash means we did not find a consistent published equivalent.

UK double letters

UK sizing includes DD, FF, GG, HH, JJ. Each is a full cup step, not a half size.

US labels vary

Some US brands write DDD and others F for the same step. Always check the specific brand’s chart above DD.

EU from G upwards

Most charts give EU I for UK G; some skip I and give J. The bracketed letter shows the alternative.

Clarifying the difference

Conversion versus sister sizing

These answer different questions, and mixing them up is a common cause of ordering the wrong size.

Conversion

Same size, different label

You want the same size from a brand that labels sizes in another system.

Example UK 32E → US 32DDD → EU 70F

Sister sizing

Different band, similar cups

You want a firmer or looser band while keeping cup capacity approximately comparable.

Example (UK) 30F (firmer) ← 32E → 34DD (looser)

Practical advice

Why might a converted size still fit differently?

A conversion gives you the label to look for. Before ordering, run through these checks.

  1. 1

    Confirm the retailer’s system

Check whether the shop lists the brand’s original sizes or converts them.

  2. 2

    Check the cup sequence

If a size menu shows DD, E, F, FF, the shop is using UK sizing.

  3. 3

    Compare the style

A different cut can fit differently even in the right label.

  4. 4

    Read the brand’s chart

Use the brand’s own size guide where it differs from general charts.

  5. 5

    Check returns

International returns can be slow or costly, so check the policy first.

Frequently asked questions

Common conversion questions

Are bra cup sizes the same in the UK and USA?

Band numbers are the same, and cups A to D generally match. Above that they split: in the brand charts we checked, UK DD is US DD (some say DD/E), UK E is US DDD (some add F), UK F is US G, and UK FF is US H.

How do I convert EU and French bra sizes to UK?

EU bands go up in steps of 5 from 60 (UK 28), so EU 70 is UK 32 and EU 75 is UK 34. French bands are the EU band plus 15, so FR 85 is UK 32. EU and French cups use single letters, so EU E is UK DD and EU F is UK E.

What is a 34B in EU sizes?

A UK 34B is an EU 75B and a French 90B. Bands change, but cups A to D keep the same letter.

What is the European equivalent of a UK 32D?

A UK 32D is an EU 70D and a French 85D.

Why do some charts disagree for larger cups?

From UK G upwards, most brand charts we checked give EU I for UK G, but some (for example Curvy Kate and Pour Moi) skip the letter I, giving EU J. The converter shows both where this applies, so check the brand’s own chart.

Can I trust the conversion printed on a garment label?

Often, but not always. Labels can follow the brand’s own conversion, which may differ from other brands. If in doubt, use the size in the brand’s home system and its official size guide.

How do Australian and New Zealand bra sizes compare?

Australian and New Zealand bands are the UK band minus 22 (UK 32 is AU 10), and the cup letters in the charts we checked are the same as UK letters.

Do bra sizes run differently by brand?

Yes, fit can vary between brands and styles even with the same label. A conversion tells you which label to look for, not how a particular bra will fit. See our brand size guides.
